Editor Roles and Responsibilities

Editors of scientific journals have responsibilities to the authors who provide the journal's content, the peer reviewers who comment on the suitability of manuscripts for publication, the journal's readers and the scientific community, the journal's owners/publishers, and the general public. Depending on the relationship between the editor and publisher for specific journals, some of the following roles and responsibilities may overlap:

Responsibilities of Editorial Board

Editors must ensure the integrity of the published literature by publishing errata or corrections identifying anything of significance, retractions, and expressions of concern as soon as possible. The editor must follow the publisher's policy guidelines and carry out the responsibilities bestowed upon him or her with integrity.

Review Process

Editors are in charge of overseeing and ensuring the editorial process's fairness, timeliness, thoroughness, and civility. The Editor's timely suggestions to the respective journals for covering relevant and significant topics are critical for the journal's growth.
