Biography

Dr. Neha deora is a Biochemist enthusiast, currently working as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University. She completed her PhD from Centre of Bio-Separation Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. During her PhD she worked on the identification and characterization of compounds from plants using BioSeparation techniques and elucidate their mechanism of action employing multidisciplinary approaches. The work was carried on genetically obese models with chemically induced hyperglycemia to elucidate the anti-diabetic and anti-obesity potential of Aloe vera through two important key pathways: Inhibition of DPP-IV, a crucial drug target for the management of diabetes mellitus, and as a pancreatic lipase inhibitor, an important drug target for the treatment of obesity. She has worked at different laboratories, Vellore (CBST-VIT), Hyderabad (NIN-ICMR), and Jodhpur (DMRC-ICMR) to acquire intellectual and experimental skills and expertise. She has authored several scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, and book chapters. During her PhD, she received an International travel award from Bill and Melinda Gates foundation to attend Keystone symposium on Diabetes and Adipose tissue biology. She was awarded Senior research fellowship from Indian council of Medical to pursue her PhD. She has presented her work at several national and international conferences. She obtained a postgraduate diploma in Public Health Nutrition from the Indian Institute of Public Health, New Delhi to further her interest and build on her prior experience working in the public health sector. After that, she briefly worked as a consultant for Jhpiego, an international NGO that work towards maternal and child health nutrition. Currently, her research interest is identification of Bioactive peptides from natural products and elucidate their potential against important drug targets in the management of diabetes mellitus.
